Lindsay Seligman Eco-Tee Design Challenge Winner

Lindsay Seligman, a California artist and designer, deeply committed to the green movement won the hessnatur/Planet Green Eco-Tee Design Challenge with a simple and eloquent design.  “It was easy for me to relate to hessnatur’s vision and create a design for them.  The structure and heart of their business helps to alleviate some of what I feel are the biggest issues facing most industrial practices of today”, Lindsay said.  Her winning design, “…a bird, cat, fish, butterfly, frog and human all interconnected and drawn by a single line to represent our connection to one another” moved voters and judges alike to pick hers to be manufactured and sold by hessnatur.  “The phrase ‘One Life’ has a double meaning to remind us that we are all a part of one life and that we have this one life to make a difference”, she commented. One Life

Lindsay, a graduate of Scripps College in Claremont, California has also participated in many green and socially responsible activities.  “I volunteer creating cheerful mosaic tile floors for a school in Mexico and soon I will be participating in an internship constructing off-the-grid houses in Texas.  I hope to continue to open people’s eyes to how precious the balance of nature is and how our actions matter.”

On being chosen as the winner of the Eco-Tee Design Challenge, Lindsay stated, “hessnatur not only helps make a difference through environmentally responsible production, they are socially responsible, too.  It is an honor that my design was picked and I hope funds from the shirt bring education and opportunities to the students in Bangladesh.

Congratulations to Lindsay, a fine designer and a remarkable young person!

We Have A Winner: Lindsay Seligman

As you may know we sponsored an eco-tee challenge in partnership with PlanetGreen.com.  The public was invited to enter designs for a tee shirt to highlight the importance of organic apparel. Applicants from all over the United States entered unique and original designs. From these 50 designs the voting public chose 5 finalists.  Then a distinguished panel of eco-conscious and fashion-savvy judges — Blake Mycoskie, Chief Shoe Giver and Founder of TOMS Shoes, Miranda Purves, lifestyle editor of ELLE, Summer Rayne Oakes, model and environmental activist, and our own Miguel Adrover, internationally renowned fashion designer — picked the winner.

And she is…Lindsay Seligman!  Her design, a delicate and powerful green line drawing of a bird , a face, mouse, frog, butterfly and cat emerging from the words “one life” captured the imagination and interest of the public and judges alike. The winning tee will be sold internationally, beginning on December. Lindsay’s  design will be produced at Grameen Knitwear in Bangladesh,  an affiliate of the Grameen Bank.  A portion of the proceeds from the sale will be donated to the hessnatur Scholarship Program at the Grameen Shikkha Project for its work in eradicating poverty through education.

Congratulations not only to our winner, Lindsay Seligman, but to all the entrants for their exceptional designs and commitment to a healthier planet!

For judge Blake Mycoskie, Chief Shoe Giver and founder of TOMS shoes, the simple, straightforward message of the design submitted by Michele Hankin, shown here, combines an important topic with an easy-to-read format.

“I think making the world a better place should be simple. Having a clear message is ultimately what resonates in people’s minds and therefore encourages them to get on board. This tee does just that- the message is so straight-forward, the drawing is relatable, and it achieves the goal, ‘Go green!’”

Miguel Adrover on His Eco-Tee Design Challenge Pick of the Week

Miguel Adrover_Pick of the Week

hessnatur creative director Miguel Adrover knows just what makes the brand tick. His favorite image this week is the one submitted by Lily Chin, shown here.

“I respect the power of words, but for me the image, the visualization of an idea, is what moves me. If I don’t react spontaneously, if I have to rationalize my way to a  judgment, then the communication was unsuccessful. This week there were many such images and choosing just one was difficult.

“I was taken with the simplicity of the design created by Lily Chin. The line drawing of a plant breaking through the earth. I like to imagine that the tiny plant grows to maturity warmed by the sun, fed by the rain with only organic supplements to nourish and protect it. This is Earth’s way. And it’s the best way. The design is a symbol of purity and health to me, the essence of our commitment to save the planet. So, Lily, I applaud your design. As she says so beautifully, “made by earth with love”. It’s my pick of the week.”
