The You are What You Wear Contest: Day 4

Thursday, March 11th, 2010

Environmental and social crises are called out in “lawn” signs around the earth, from over-fishing to the destruction of the Amazon rain forest.  Designer Miguel Adrover created a compelling message and graphic to inspire awareness and action.

Created from organic cotton grown at the hessnatur organic farming project in Burkina Faso, West Africa, the tee was produced at Grameen Knitwear in Bangladesh, part of the network founded by Dr. Muhammad Yunus, recipient of the 2006 Nobel Peace Prize.

The “You are What You Wear” Contest Starts Monday

Wednesday, March 3rd, 2010

Message tee shirts are like bumper stickers: they tell the world what you think, what you believe, and, hopefully, encourage others to join your cause.  Beginning next Monday and continuing through Friday, we will show 5 of our favorite message tees. One tee every day. Each communicates in its own distinctive – and creative! – way our commitment to making the world a better, safer and healthier place.

Please choose your favorite, the one that best expresses your beliefs and, briefly, write a comment to tell us why.  We will reward the best answer with the tee of choice.  Five winners in all.  One for each tee.

Just remember, if every person in the world changed their conventional cotton tees to organic cotton tees, we could improve the quality of our soil, our water, our air and improve the health millions of people, just by eliminating the use of harmful pesticides and insecticides.

So look for our “You are What You Wear” Contest next Monday.  As we always say, what you wear does make a difference.

PS: Some of us at hessnatur making our statements in our favorite tees.

Looking at Spring

Wednesday, February 24th, 2010

While I always anticipate the arrival of a new season, winter gets old pretty quickly in the Northeast.  So any sign of spring is welcome out in the frigid country.  Seeing the new hessnatur Spring Summer collection appear before my snowdrops,  I’ve already picked out my favorites.

I never thought I’d see a jacket I’d want as much as my natural waxed jacket – I live in that jacket – but this season’s hemp parka is a must for me. I’ll wear it over leggings, jeans and a turtleneck. My kind of relaxed dressing. Naturally (the perfect word for hessnatur clothes!) I look for new pieces in their fabric collections. And not just because of their purity, but because I gravitate toward simplicity with style. The way hessnatur fabrics feel as well as how they look is highest on my dressing particulars. The cotton and linen sweaters are wardrobe essentials for me. The easy pullover in dune, a perfect neutral, check.

And since I live in tees (who doesn’t?), how can I resist the new Love Life tee? Tiny plants and animals forming the globe, isn’t that how we all want to feel? If you need a touch of spring as much as I do, you’ll love the new collection!

CONTEST: Comment to Win an Organic Cotton Cardigan!

Monday, February 8th, 2010

Comment to Win a Organic Cotton Cardigan!

Winner

Our winner is Dianne for her comment: “I need some green in my closet to keep up with my son’s green closet. He currently is the only one in the house who has a complete green wardrobe and he’s making his parents look bad! I’ve loved the quality of hessnatur’s clothing for my son and would love to try something in the adult line. As parents normally do we put him first and made sure he’s had everything organic. On one salary that’s been hard but totally worth it. Our dream is that one day the whole family will wear nothing but organic cotton.”

Thanks for joining and it’s never too early to think about next contest!
